Happy Tuesday my friends! It’s been too long since I have done a Top 5 Tuesday, but I really liked today’s prompt, so here we are! Top 10 Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by Broke and Bookish where book bloggers are provided with a prompt so they can make LISTS of books in a specific category. And if you have stuck around this blog for any amount of time you should know that I really love writing lists. LOVE LISTS.
Today, the Top 10 prompt is “ten characters I’d name my child/dog/cat/fish etc. after.” While my boyfriend and I have no plans to have any mini me’s running around any time, new puppies are always on the horizon for us. If we didn’t live in an apartment we may already have an army of dogs running around. I love thinking about my new, imaginary pups and what I am going to name them, so let’s get to it! (Please forgive my Top 10 actually being a Top 5… to each their own eh?)
- Emelina from Ruined
I didn’t necessarily love Ruined, but good lord I loved Emelina’s name. How adorable would it be to have a little pup running around named Emelina, Em for short? In all fairness, this would probably be a great little girl’s name too. Fierce yet feminine.
- Albus from the Harry Potter series
Albus Dumbledore is not without his faults, but he may be my favorite character…ever. I have never not giggled at his quips and love for lemon candies. His calm, cool demeanor paired with his incomparable intelligence made him a favorite from now until forever. I need a fluffy white dog named Albus; one that will sit still so I can adorn him with half-moon glasses and other Harry Potter memorabilia, in the name of Instagram pictures obviously.
- Sazed from the Mistborn trilogy
A little random and unconventional, but Sazed from Mistborn novels is my favorite character in the trilogy. He has such a unique name, and possesses the most fantastic powers. I craved chapters told from his point of view, and every time he entered the story his presence was so commanding without being overwhelming. I need a golden retriever pup named Saze.
- Laia from An Ember in the Ashes
While Laia was a relatively bland character until the end of An Ember in the Ashes, the moment she was introduced I was entranced by her name. I think part of the reason was how well her name fit with the setting, which always helps with world building. But the sheer amount of character development that Laia undergoes made me love her. Again, such a cute puppy name!
- Feyre from A Court of Thorns and Roses & A Court of Mist and Fury
My favorite female character, from one of my favorite books ever, from one of my favorite author’s ever? How could I not include Feyre? I’ll be honest though, I totally mispronounced her name throughout the entirety of A Court of Thorns and Roses, don’t laugh, saying it in my head like “fair.” And while I liked her name that way, it wasn’t until I realized that I was mispronouncing it that I fell in love with her name. It’s “fae-rah” for anyone who was unaware (please, please there needs to be someone else who was as clueless as I was!)
- Bonus! Manon from Heir of Fire, Queen of Shadows, Empire of Storms
I really struggled with whether or not to feature a name from the ACOTAR series or the Throne of Glass series, but I love both of them so much I couldn’t pick just one. I adore Manon’s name, but I don’t know if I can imagine myself naming my child or my pet after her, simply because I wouldn’t be able to shorten it to a pet name or a nickname! But she is still Queen in my eyes, Queen Manon, ruler of bad ass names.
