Percy Jackson – the ULTIMATE sasspot

I find it really difficult to review books that are super popular, because what can I possibly say that hasn’t been said or pointed out a hundred times previously?

So instead of even trying to tackle a review for the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, I thought it would be fun to just pick out my favorite quotes from all five books.  These are going to be the quotes that made me laugh out loud, appreciate the lessons Rick Riordan was teaching, the ones that made smile to myself, and overall made me fall in love with the series.

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief

percy jackson-2“What horrible things would you have to do in your life to get woven into Hades’ underwear?”

“What I did next was so impulsive and dangerous I should’ve been named ADHD poster child of the year.”

“I didn’t understand how. But the toilets had responded to me. I had become one with the plumbing…”

“His hair was permed and gelled like a New Jersey girl’s on homecoming night.”

Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters

“We only came close to dying six or seven times, which I thought was pretty good.”

“He looked like an evil male model, showing off what the fashionable college-age villain was wearing to Harvard this year.”

“I had nightmares about what Poseidon might turn me into if i were ever in the verge of death—plankton, maybe. Or a floating patch of kelp.”

“I wasn’t sure whether I was supposed to kneel or buy stamps from him or what.”

“A guy in Greek armor drew his sword and charged, but slipped in a puddle of pina colada.”

then there is genius like this:

“This is the trouble with all happiness – all of it is built on top of something men want.”

Percy Jackson and the Titan’s Curse

percy jackson on board“Ever had a flying burrito hit you? Well, it’s a deadly projectile, right up there with cannonballs and grenades.”

“Wow,” Thalia muttered. “Apollo is hot.”
“He’s the sun-god,” I said.
“That’s not what I meant.”

“Bessie?” I looked down at the bull serpent. “But… he’s too cute. He couldn’t destroy the world.”

and another nugget of actual wisdom:

“The most dangerous flaws are those which are good in moderation,” she said. “Evil is easy to fight. Lack of wisdom… that is very hard indeed.”

Percy Jackson and the Battle of Labyrinth

“I tried to talk to Annabeth, but she was acting like I’d just punched her grandmother.”

percy jackson-3“Chiron insisted that we talk about the Labyrinth in the morning which is like ‘Hey, your life’s in mortal danger. Sleep tight!”

“Their dad was the god of thieves, but they were about a stealthy as water buffaloes.”

I love this one so much though:

“Genius does not excuse evil.”

Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian

“With great power… comes great need to take a nap. Wake me up later.”

percy jackson-1“I don’t recommend shadow travel if you’re scared of:
a) The dark
b) Cold shivers up your spine
c) Strange noises
d) Going so fast you feel like your face is peeling off
In other words, I thought it was awesome.”

“I felt like one of Apollo’s sacred cows – slow, dumb, and bright red.”

I really loved how Poseidon and Percy’s relationship developed throughout the books, and this quote totally made me tear up:

“No hero is above fear, Percy. And you have risen above every hero. Not even Hercules-”

BUT AWWW PERCY AND ANNABETH MAKE ME SMILE SO BIG! :

“Before I could lose my courage, I said, “Don’t I get a kiss for luck? It’s kind of a tradition, right?”
I figured she would punch me. Instead, she drew her knife and stared at the army marching toward us. “Come back alive, Seaweed Brain. Then, we’ll see.”

“Annabeth came up to me. She was dressed in black camouflage with her Celestial bronze knife strapped to her arm and her laptop bag slung over her shoulder—ready for stabbing or surfing the Internet, whichever came first.”

Okay, well I think it’s about time I wrap up this Percy lovefest.  If it wasn’t clear enough, I absolutely adored this series, and reading them was such a fun adventure.  I have already purchased the Percy Jackson and the Heroes of Olympus series, and I am so excited to see where the characters go from here.

Until next time!
