What Have I Been Up To??

Well, it has been over two months since I have last published on my blog!  That makes me really sad; I love this little extension of myself.  But unfortunately, life is forseeably busy for the next two months, and I wanted to take some time for a little personal post, and explain my absence (not that many will be too particularly interested, but still let me justify my lack of online presence!)

When I sat down at the beginning of 2018 and mapped out my overall goals for the year, I decided that my main objective of applying to graduate school for 2019 needed to be moved up.  My boyfriend and I are at this tenuous point in our lives where everything we have worked towards for the past three years is wrapping up, and we need to figure out what comes next.  For me, graduate school.  For him, getting a great job with a sustainable company.  For both of us, moving to a new city.

So, my main focus since January has been prepping for graduate school applications, and everything that endeavor entails. Up until now, almost all of my attention was directed at studying for the GRE test that I took this past weekend.  It is a pretty expensive test ($200 a try along with any studying material you invest in!) and to be honest I haven’t decided  yet if my scores are good enough to justify not taking it again.

But there are so many other moving parts, that honestly I spend most of my day wondering where all the hours go. I am trying to balance my life with work and fun, but increasingly I am abandoning my reading time to park myself in front of my laptop for hours at a time. Of course, I knew this was going to be the plan all along; when I made my Goodreads Reading Challenge for 2018, I consciously set my reading goal for about 15 books less than what I averaged last year. But that doesn’t mean that I am not a tiny bit saddened at my lack of pleasure reading so far this year!

While it is easy to focus on the negatives of my change of lifestyle so far in 2018, there have definitely been some positives! For one, I have spent way less money on books this year since I am restricting myself to one new release per month. This is helping me focus on what I really want to read, rather than being swooped up in the “new pretty book frenzy” that was my constant state of mind last year. Secondly, I have been trying to take different types of pictures other than strictly book pics, and I am having a lot of fun with it! I like showing that there is more to my life than just what I am reading, or have recently acquired to read.

Anyways, this was a ramble heavy post, so thank you for sticking with me! I hope you continue to stick around even though the posts will be slightly more sporadic than usual, and hopefully I can find a better way to balance my time in the near future. Thank you, and until next time!!

  1. Just wanted to chime in and say how proud I am of you. I love you and this year is going to be full of success for the both of us 😀

  2. You go girl! I hope that moving to a new city means moving to California so we can be friends IRL. Also, I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again: good luck on that GRE whenever it comes around!!! ❤
