There is so much to consider when picking up a book if you are judging it how it looks: the cover yes, but also the spine details, the back cover, the pages (are they deckled?! are they sprayed?!), the title pages, the chapter headers, the naked spine, the naked hardcover, and I could go on and on and on…
Based on all of these factors, I thought it would be fun to start a blog meme, which I am so fondly calling, “It’s All in the De-Tales”. This is not necessarily a book ‘review’, although you could say its a review based on physical properties and has nothing to do with what is on the inside!
So for this third edition of “It’s All in the De-Tales” I thought it would be fun to do one of my favorite incomplete series, one which I picked up several years ago specifically because I loved how the book looked without the dust jacket on.
I present to you: The Bone Season books in all their glory!

Good Morning everyone! It has been so stinkin’ long since I have participated in a Top 5/10 Tuesday so I thought it would be fun to revisit a prompt I missed from a few weeks ago that I love!
For those of you that are unaware, Top 10 Tuesday is a weekly blog meme hosted by The Broke & The Bookish, where book bloggers get to highlight their top 10 choices for the topic that the lovely people at B&B choose for the week. Yes, the meme is supposed to be Top 10, and yes, I only do 5. WHAT ABOUT IT?
So, today the Top 5 prompt I wanted to revisit is: 5 most recent books from X genre that you have recently added to your TBR! A couple of weeks ago I posted a picture of my sci-fi section of my bookshelf on Instagram, which I am immensely proud of. But then I realized that for being one of my favorite genres, I definitely needed to add some more books to this collection. Let’s get to it!

The Bone Season #2
If you thought The Bone Season was a crazy read: well, buckle in my friends, because The Mime Order is absolute insanity. I tried, I tried so hard to not read this book in one sitting, and I succeeded somewhat! I read it in three sittings. Go me!
Reading this series though, is borderline torture. I just want to get to the end so badly, yet there are 5….FIVE books left to be published (including The Song Rising which is coming out in March 2017 THANK THE LORD). I feel so invested in this story and the characters already, and I can see this series being my next big obsession for the next decade.
What I love, and I find to be one of the more unique aspects of the Bone Season books, is that each new book picks up mere seconds after the last one ended. There is no ‘six months later’ recap, there is only non-stop action.

Illuminae Files #2
Illuminae pretty much blew my mind when I read it back in May this year. So, while I wasn’t waiting for Gemina near as long as some of the original fans of the series, I was very eager to get my hands on the continuation of this galactic adventure.
And bonus: these books are gorgeous. The US hardback editions, with the plastic, see-through dust jackets are so original and GORGEOUS together. SO. STINKIN. PRETTY.
I am sure that the authors would cringe if they heard me calling their books ‘pretty’, because these are bad ass stories, with strong independent characters, and scary alien violence. Pretty isn’t really a word that you should throw around when you have zombie viruses and alien worms eating the protagonists, but hey, sue me.

“Are you happy with your life?”
Do I have your attention yet? If this mind-numbingly awesome book cover doesn’t draw you in, that line sure as hell will.
You all know I am a cover monster. Show me a beautiful book cover and I am all over it. This familiar feeling of infatuation come over me when I first laid my eyes on this sci-fi thriller, Dark Matter. And is it not just the best feeling in the world when you are rewarded with content inside the book that is even better than the amazing shell on the outside?!
I jump from genre to genre all the time, and I felt like I needed some science fiction in my life. When I picked up Dark Matter though, I was not expecting this absolutely insane reading experience: the kind of experience where you are left breathless after every chapter, where you find yourself contemplating all the life choices you have ever made. Yes, Dark Matter is that kind of book, and it is so good.
